How to keep your pet calm this July 4th July 1, 2022 – Posted in: cats, dogs, wellness

July 4th is right around the corner, and we know what that means… Fireworks. Most pet owners know this is a time of high anxiety and stress for many of our furry friends. Even if your pet hasn’t been reactive to fireworks in the past, don’t assume they will never become fearful. As pets age, they become more likely to develop a fear of loud noises.

Ways to help keep your pet calm this July 4th:

Let your pet choose their safe space, where they feel secure. This could be a crate, a bed, or a room. Be sure your pet has access to this space on the day of the fireworks.

Play calming music such as soft jazz, classical, or reggae, and keep curtains closed to block out the flashing lights.

Provide your dog with distractions such as a bully stick or raw marrow bone. Chewing is an excellent way for dogs to relieve anxiety.

Start giving your pet CBD or calming herbs early that day. These work best when given well in advance.

Do not leave your pet alone during the fireworks. You are one of the best comforts to your furry friend. If you cannot be home, ask a close friend or family member your pet is comfortable with to stay with them.

The Fourth of July can be pretty stressful for most pets, but we hope these tips help relieve some anxiety!
