common plants toxic to dogs and cats

Spring is officially here and it is important to remember that some of the beautiful blooms we enjoy with the warmer weather are toxic to our furry friends. These are just some of the common plants that are dangerous for cats & dogs to ingest. We recommend keeping houseplants out of reach and never leaving your pets unattended outdoors to avoid exposure. In the event your pet ingests a toxic plant, contact your veterinarian or poison control center immediately.

Don’t forget about the dangers of toxic weed killers! Chemical weed killers are poisonous to our pets and have a great chance of being ingested when pets come into contact with them (both dogs and cats lick their paws and fur to clean themselves). Try this natural weed killer recipe to avoid exposing your pet to toxic chemicals:

Ingredients:

  • 1 gallon white vinegar
  • 1 cup salt
  • 1 tablespoon liquid dish soap

Directions:

Combine ingredients in a spray bottle and treat weeds at the sunniest time of day for best results.
